Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance FAQs in Rockford, IL
While hybrid vehicles vary from conventional autos a bit when it comes to maintenance, there are still routine services that the former need to perform at their highest potential! You can read about some of these, then contact our Service Department at Anderson Toyota when you’re ready for an appointment. We’d love to hear from you!
What Routine Maintenance is Needed for Hybrids?
As with gas models, hybrids still need regular oil changes so that the components under the hood are being lubricated and your vehicle doesn’t have to work too hard during drives. However, typically, a conventional car needs an oil change every 5,000 to 7,000 miles, but with a hybrid, you might need to visit us every 10,000 miles or so. Along with that, you should have your tires rotated every six months so that they are ultimately balanced. Lastly, when it comes to your fluids, you’ll want to take care of the transmission fluid between 60,000 to 90,000 miles. When you have it changed out at the recommended time, it will help to keep your gear shifts smooth and help your transmission last longer. If you delay having it swapped out, this could possibly cause your vehicle to stop moving as you’re out and about.
When Should You Have Your Battery Replaced?
Your battery is a vital component and it works together with the motor to propel you forward and take you where you need to be. With a brand-new vehicle, it will typically last you between 10 to 15 years. If it’s time to have it changed out, there may be some surefire signs that it’s time to visit our service bay. A few of these include a shorter driving range, charging issues, or noises coming from the component itself. While a new battery may be a bit costly, it is going to add 10 or more years to your adventures. If you’re looking to save funds, you can always consider a refurbished option. Usually, there are also warranties for batteries that you can ask us about that will help keep some of your hard-earned money in your pocket.
When Do You Need To Have Your Brakes Changed?
When it comes to your brakes, you should have them inspected immediately if there are any noises coming from them as you are coming to a stop. Otherwise, you may be able to go as much as 100,000 miles before you need new ones. This is because most hybrids have regenerative braking that puts energy back into the battery for longer drives, so they are not being utilized as much. However, this number could fluctuate, depending on your driving habits and the age of your vehicle, so contact us with any questions. At this same time, we are also happy to check any other components that may need to be addressed. You can pair a wheel alignment at the same time, or have us check your cabin air filter and see that it’s producing fresh, clean air when it is being used.
